Hello Lilly lovers! Whose ready for another Lilly tutorial? I know, its been a while. If you saw my post about my Little’s craft crate, I’m sure you saw this Lilly print photo frame. Here’s the step by step instructions on how I painted this pattern!
This is the Lilly Pulitzer Let’s Cha Cha Pattern that inspired me!
- Unfinished wooden photo frame (or other surface to paint on)
- White Acrylic Paint*
- Blue Acrylic Paint*
- Green Acrylic Paint*
- 2 Shades of Pink Acrylic Paint*
- Turquoise Acrylic Paint*
- Small Paint Brushes
*You can substitute a different color to give it your own personal touch*
Step 1: Paint the entire photo frame white. While the white will barely be seen, this acts as a primer and will help the paint to show up better, rather than be absorbed into the wood.
Step 2: Using small brush, paint pink wavy lines to make up the first pieces of coral. Spread them out across the frame so that there is plenty of room for the other colors.
Step 3: Using the other shade of pink, paint the second coral design. To do this design, I painted small “V” shaped designs in a wavy row and then lightly ran my brush through the wet paint to join them in a line.
Step 4: Using the green paint, paint swirly coral patterns similar to the first pink design.
Step 5: Also in pink, add a wavy circle like shape. Add leaf like veins and fill the rest in with dots to make it look porous.
Step 6: Create the jagged coral pattern again, this time in turquoise. At this point your frame shouldn’t have any big gaps. If not, go back and add some more of each color but do leave a little bit of room for fish and the background color.
Step 7: In small empty spaces add green fish.
Step 8: Using a very fine brush, fill in inbetween the coral designs with blue paint. Don’t worry about getting right up next to the designs, its okay to leave a little bit of white because there is some white in the original pattern!
And there you go! Hope you like your finished product as much as I like mine! I’d love to hear how this tutorial worked for you! xoxo
